2011 Summer Skin Protection Tricks

2011 Summer Skin Protection Tricks

Here are 8 tips to protect your skin in summer of 2011

  1. When to put on sunscreen-When you head to the beach, spread out your towel, and then slather on some sunscreen, thinking that it will start to protect you right away. But sunscreen takes time to start working because it needs to be absorbed into the skin. Apply your sunscreen 20 to 30 minutes before going outside.

  1. Avoiding sunscreen on cloudy day- This is not good idea, as 80% of the sun's rays still get through the clouds. So make it a habit to apply sunscreen whenever you'll be exposing your skin to the sun, regardless of the weather.

  1. Wrong times to go outside-The sun's rays are most intense between and . While it's not realistic to always stay indoors during these times, try to schedule your day so that you spend more of your “outdoor” time outside of this window. For example, take your daily walk or run before – or after .

  1. How to apply sunscreen properly-Our ears, our lips, the backs of our hands and the tops of your feet can get sunburned too, but many people neglect these areas when they apply sunscreen. For our lips, choose a lip balm with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30 that protects against UVA and UVB rays.

  1. How much is enough sunscreen-We should use more sunscreen.Survey shows that most people don't use nearly enough sunscreen – the average person uses only one-quarter to one-half as much as they need.Use at least one palmful of sunscreen to cover your face, neck, arms and legs.

  1. Reapplying sunscreen- Reapply your sunscreen every 2 hours throughout the day, and also after swimming, sweating, or toweling dry (which can rub off sunscreen). And remember that water-resistant sunscreens may offer only 40 minutes of protection in the water.

  1. Physical protection is a good idea- To protect the delicate skin of your scalp (especially where your hair is parted), it's best to sport a wide-brimmed hat. Sun-protective clothing, which is specially treated to provide better sun protection, is another great way to protect your skin. You can find it at your local sports or outdoors store. Also think about wearing a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and sunglasses, whenever possible.

  1. How sood is white shirt in summer- White cotton T-shirt provides only SPF of just 4, which is minimal – you need at least SPF 30. You'll get the best sun protection from clothing with a tighter weave and darker colours. Or you can opt for sun-protective clothing as described in mistake 9, above.

2011 Wimbledon Wonderful New Facts

LONDON, ENGLAND - JULY 04: Rafael Nadal of Spain lifts the Championship trophy after winning the Men's Singles Final match against Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic on Day Thirteen of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis a

The 2011 Wimbledon Championships are being held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon, London, England, and United Kingdom from 20 June to 3 July 2011. It is the 125th edition of The Championships, Wimbledon and the third Grand Slam event for the 2011 ATP World Tour and the 2011 WTA Tour.

1) New balls

Ever wondered why tennis balls are yellow? They weren't always - white balls were replaced in 1986 because they are more visible to TV cameras. Incidentally, one ball is only in play for about twenty minutes of an average two-and-a-half-hour tennis match.

2) Loudest grunts

Maria Sharapova, one of the top earners in female sports, broke the record for the loudest grunts on court - recorded at a deafening 101.2 decibels!

3) Longest Ladies' singles

Venus Williams won her 2005 final against Lindsay Davenport in the longest ladies' singles final ever played at Wimbledon lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes. Chairs were only provided for players to rest when changing ends in 1975.

4) Longest professional tennis match

The longest professional tennis match ever played was the Wimbledon 2010 first-round match between Nicolas Mahut and John Isner. It lasted 11 hours and 5 minutes.

5) Strawberries and cream

Last year, 23 tonnes of strawberries were served to visitors. When laid end-to-end, these berries would stretch almost 60km (37 miles), i.e. from Wimbledon to Reading. A slippery slope when you include the 7,000 litres of fresh cream racked up each fortnight.

6) 40 miles worth of string are fitted to 2,000

At least 40 miles worth of string are fitted to 2,000 rackets over a fortnight at Wimbledon. That's just fewer than six laps' worth of centre court.

7) Hark the halk

Hamish the hawk flies for one hour every morning of the championships before the gates open to ward off the local pigeons. He starts his duties at on the dot.

8) Married woman to win the women's singles

The last married woman to win the women's singles championship was Chris Evert Lloyd in 1981.

9) British bad boys

Tim Henman was the first-ever person to be disqualified from the men's doubles in 1995, after hitting a ball in anger and striking a ball girl in the process. Andy Murray, in turn, became the first British player in 106 years to be fined after swearing at a match official - although that was in a different tournament.

10) Name that game

The name 'tennis' is thought to come from the French 'tenez!' (‘Take' or 'receive'), a server's warning shout.

11) Young starters

British player, Laura Robson, is not only the junior champion but, at 15 years and 152 days old on Monday 22nd June, was the youngest woman to play in the senior competition since Martina Hingis in 1995.

12) All White clothing

All tennis players participating in Wimbledon are required to wear all white or at least almost all-white clothing, a long-time tradition.

13) Long-sleeved shirts and trousers

During the late 1800s and early 1900s, men players wore long-sleeved shirts and trousers, and women wore ankle-length dresses. Try playing sports in that attire these days!
