Eat or not eat Organic food?

Conventional vs. organic Food

After reading this article you will find more info about eating organic food in 2017. On one hand, you have a conventionally grown apple. On the other, you have one that's organic. Both apples are firm, shiny and red. Both provide vitamins and fiber, and both are free of fat, sodium and cholesterol. Which should you choose? Get the facts before you shop.

Eat or not eat Organic food in 2015?

Conventional vs. organic farming

The word "organic" refers to the way farmers grow and process agricultural products, such as fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products and meat. Organic farming practices are designed to encourage soil and water conservation and reduce pollution.
Farmers who grow organic produce don't use conventional methods to fertilize and control weeds. Examples of organic farming practices include using natural fertilizers to feed soil and plants, and using crop rotation or mulch to manage weeds.

Organic or not? Check the label

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has established an organic certification program that requires all organic foods to meet strict government standards. These standards regulate how such foods are grown, handled and processed.
Any product labeled as organic must be USDA certified. Only producers who sell less than $5,000 a year in organic foods are exempt from this certification; however, they're still required to follow the USDA's standards for organic foods.
If a food bears a USDA Organic label, it means it's produced and processed according to the USDA standards. The seal is voluntary, but many organic producers use it.
Eat or not eat Organic food in 2015?
Products certified 95 percent or more organic may display this USDA seal.
Products that are completely organic — such as fruits, vegetables, eggs or other single-ingredient foods — are labeled 100 percent organic and can carry the USDA seal. Foods that have more than one ingredient, such as breakfast cereal, can use the USDA organic seal plus the following wording, depending on the number of organic ingredients:
•100 percent organic. To use this phrase, products must be either completely organic or made of all organic ingredients.
•Organic. Products must be at least 95 percent organic to use this term.
Products that contain at least 70 percent organic ingredients may say "made with organic ingredients" on the label, but may not use the seal. Foods containing less than 70 percent organic ingredients can't use the seal or the word "organic" on their product labels. They can include the organic items in their ingredient list, however.

Do 'organic' and 'natural' mean the same thing?

No, "natural" and "organic" are not interchangeable terms. You may see "natural" and other terms such as "all natural," "free-range" or "hormone-free" on food labels. These descriptions must be truthful, but don't confuse them with the term "organic." Only foods that are grown and processed according to USDA organic standards can be labeled organic

Organic food: Is it more nutritious?

Probably not, but the answer isn't yet clear. A recent study examined the past 50 years' worth of scientific articles about the nutrient content of organic and conventional foods. The researchers concluded that organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs are not significantly different in their nutrient content.

Organic food: Other considerations

Many factors influence the decision to choose organic food. Some people choose organic food because they prefer the taste. Yet others opt for organic because of concerns such as:
•Pesticides. Conventional growers use synthetic pesticides to protect their crops from molds, insects and diseases. When farmers spray pesticides, this can leave residue on produce. Organic farmers use insect traps, careful crop selection (disease-resistant varieties), predator insects or beneficial microorganisms instead to control crop-damaging pests. Some people buy organic food to limit their exposure to these residues. Organic produce typically carries significantly fewer pesticide residues than does conventional produce. However, residues on most products — both organic and nonorganic — don't exceed government safety thresholds.
•Food additives. Organic regulations ban or severely restrict the use of food additives, processing aids (substances used during processing, but not added directly to food) and fortifying agents commonly used in nonorganic foods, including preservatives, artificial sweeteners, colorings and flavorings, and monosodium glutamate.
•Environment. Some people buy organic food for environmental reasons. Organic farming practices are designed to benefit the environment by reducing pollution and conserving water and soil quality.

Are there downsides to buying organic?

One common concern with organic food is cost. Organic foods typically cost more than do their conventional counterparts. Higher prices are due, in part, to more-expensive farming practices.
Because organic fruits and vegetables aren't treated with waxes or preservatives, they may spoil faster. Also, some organic produce may look less than perfect — odd shapes, varying colors or smaller sizes. However, organic foods must meet the same quality and safety standards as those of conventional foods.

Food safety tips

Whether you go totally organic or opt to mix conventional and organic foods, be sure to keep these tips in mind:
•Select a variety of foods from a variety of sources. This will give you a better mix of nutrients and reduce your likelihood of exposure to a single pesticide.
•Buy fruits and vegetables in season when possible. To get the freshest produce, ask your grocer what day new produce arrives. Or buy food from your local farmers market.
•Read food labels carefully. Just because a product says it's organic or contains organic ingredients doesn't necessarily mean it's a healthier alternative. Some organic products may still be high in sugar, salt, fat or calories.
•Wash and scrub fresh fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water. Washing helps remove dirt, bacteria and traces of chemicals from the surface of fruits and vegetables. Not all pesticide residues can be removed by washing, though. You can also peel fruits and vegetables, but peeling can mean losing some fiber and nutrients

Know more about all the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (ingredients, side effect and how it work) Part 4

This is my fourth blog on COVID19 vaccine. In this one, I will give you more information about Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.

The Janssen COVID-19 vaccine (Ad26.COV2.S) is use to prevent COVID-19. This disease is caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).The vaccine is approved for people who are 18 years of age and older. Its safety and effectiveness in people younger than 18 years of age have not yet been establish. Health Canada authorized this vaccine with conditions on March 5, 2021, under the interim order respecting the importation, sale and advertising of drugs for use in relation to COVID-19.

Ingredients

Medicinal ingredient

adenovirus vector vaccine

Non-medicinal ingredients

2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (HBCD)

citric acid monohydrate

ethanol

hydrochloric acid

polysorbate-80

sodium chloride

sodium hydroxide

trisodium citrate dehydrate

water for injection

How it works

Viral vector-based vaccines use a harmless virus, such as an adenovirus, as a delivery system. This “vector” virus is not the virus that causes COVID-19. Adenoviruses are among the viruses that can cause the common cold. There are many different types of adenoviruses, and many have been used as delivery systems for other vector-based vaccines for decades.

When a person is given the vaccine, the vector virus contained within the vaccine produces the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19. This rotein will not make you sick. It does its job and goes away.

Through this process, the body is able to build a strong immune response against the spike protein without exposing you to the virus that causes COVID-19.

How it’s given

A single 0.5mL dose of the vaccine is given by injection into the muscle of the arm.

Based on studies in about 43,000 participants, the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine was 66% effective in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 disease beginning 2 weeks after vaccination. Immunity develops over time. You won’t develop significant protection against COVID-19 for at least 2 weeks.

Possible side effects

In general, the side effects observed during the clinical trials are similar to what you might have with other vaccines. The side effects that followed vaccine administration in clinical trials were mild or moderate. They included things like pain at the site of injection, body chills, feeling tired and feeling feverish.

These are common side effects of vaccines and do not pose a risk to health.

As with all vaccines, there’s a chance that there will be a serious side effect, but these are rare. A serious side effect might be something like an allergic reaction. Speak with your health professional about any serious allergies or other health conditions you may have before you receive this vaccine.

Health Canada has conducted a rigorous scientific review of the available medical evidence to assess the safety of the Janssen COVID-19 vaccine. No major safety concerns have been identified in the data that we reviewed

How to Give a Gift of Love to your Father without spending any dime

History of Father Day

The origin of Father’s Day actually dates back to the early twentieth century. The original idea was to be able to honor all the single dads, the same way all of the mothers were being honored with Mother's Day. The overall tradition has been said to originate from Spokane Washington by a young

lady by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd. She was sitting in church listening to a sermon dedicated to Mother’s Day when she thought of the great idea. This young lady was actually raised by her father, who was a veteran of the Civil War, after her mother had passed while giving birth to their sixth child. She began to think about all that her father had done for her and the family over the years and realized how special to her that her father really was.  Even through all of the hardships and doubts he was able to raise all the children by himself. She also came to realize that he was actually a very dedicated, generous, and loving man that had never asked for anything in return. Because of the fact that her dad's birthday was actually in June Mrs. Dodd decided to hold the very first Father’s Day June 19, 1910.

http://allabout2011.blogspot.com/

However, it was originally intended for June fifth, which was her father's actual birthday but, she did not have enough time to prepare the festivities. There are other people in the US that actually credit Mrs. Charles Clayton of West Virginia and not Mrs. Dodd for the idea of Father’s day. However, even today most history books still give the credit to Mrs. Dodd.

Today Father’s Day is celebrated with gifts and maybe even a special dinner out. However, in the beginning of Father’s Day it was honored by wearing flowers. In Mrs. Dodds case she choose to wear red flowers while her father was living but, when he passed she decided on a white flower to honor his death. In 1926 a committee was created in New York to honor Father’s day. In 1956 it became recognized as a day of celebration by a Joint Resolution Of Congress. In 1972 President Nixon had made Father’s Day a permanent national holiday. It was also during this time that it was decided that it continue to be celebrated every third Sunday in June. Father’s Day is a day to show all the dads out there how much you truly love and appreciate everything that they have done.  Why not share the history of Father’s Day with your dad this year and carry on the tradition of wearing flowers in your dad's favorite color.

Usually all father not need any costly gift from their kids, they just needs respect and message of love. In this blog you will get ideas to give a gift to father without spending any cents. Know more about all the Moderna COVID19 Vaccine (ingredients, side effect and how it work)

This is my first blog on COVID19 vaccine. In this one, I will give you more information about Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (mRNA-1273) is use to prevent COVID-19. This disease is cause by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

The vaccine is approved for people who are 18 years of age and older. Its safety and effectiveness in people younger than 18 years of age have not yet been established.

Health Canada authorized this vaccine with conditions on December 23, 2020, under the Interim Order Respecting the Importation, Sale and Advertising of Drugs for Use in Relation to COVID-19.

Find detailed technical information about the Moderna vaccine, such as the product monograph and our regulatory decision summary, in the COVID-19 vaccines and treatments regulatory portal.

What is inside the vaccine?

Ingredients

Medicinal ingredient-mRNA

Non-medicinal ingredients

·       1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DSPC)

·       acetic acid

·       cholesterol

·       lipid SM-102

·       polyethylene glycol (PEG) 2000 DMG

·       sodium acetate

·       sucrose

·       tromethamine

·       tromethamine hydrochloride water for injection

How it works

mRNA vaccines teach our cells how to make a protein that will trigger an immune response without using the live virus that causes COVID-19. Once triggered, our body then makes antibodies. These antibodies help us fight the infection if the real virus does enter our body in the future.

‘RNA’ stands for ribonucleic acid, which is a molecule that provides cells with instructions for making proteins. Messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccines contain the genetic instructions for making the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, which is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19.

When a person vaccine the vaccine is given, their cells will read the genetic instructions like a recipe and produce the spike protein. After the protein piece is made, the cell breaks down the instructions and gets rid of them.

The cell then displays the protein piece on its surface. Our immune system recognizes that the protein does not belong there and begins building an immune response and making antibodies.

How it is given

The vaccine is given by an injection (0.5 mL) into the muscle of the arm. For the vaccine to work best, you need to get 2 doses: a single dose and then a second dose one month apart.

Immunity develops over time. It takes about 2 weeks to develop significant protection against COVID-19. For the greatest protection, you will need the second dose.

Based on studies in about 30,000 participants, the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine was 94.1% effective in preventing COVID-19 beginning 2 weeks after the second dose.

As with all vaccines, there is a chance that there will be a serious side effect, but these are rare. A serious side effect might be something like an allergic reaction. Speak with your health professional about any serious allergies or other health conditions you may have before you receive this vaccine.

Health Canada has conducted a rigorous scientific review of the available medical evidence to assess the safety of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. No major safety concerns have been identify in the data that we reviewed.

Save money with Home Made Weeds Killer for your green lawn (New)

Cheap and Home Made Weeds Killer

Just as we all are starting to enjoy our beautiful green lawn after a long winter, we are all noticing that weeds are popping up everywhere. Do not despair! Instead read this blog to finds out some homemade and cheap ways to control nasty weeds on your lawn

1. Homemade Vinegar mix for weeds

In light of my recent discussion of nasty chemicals on grass, you can imagine that I was excited to see this simple recipe to make my own, non-toxic weed killer spray:

8 cups (2 litres) white vinegar

1/2 cup. (50ml) salt

4 tbsp (50 ml) dishwasher liquid

Dissolve the salt in the vinegar, and then add 2 tbsp of liquid dish detergent. Store this in a labelled spray bottle.

Pour in spray bottle, mix gently and spot spray each weed. May harm grass so only spot spray directly on weeds.

2. Liquid Dish Detergent

Make a soap solution of 1 part liquid dish detergent to 10 parts water. Soak weeds with this mix.

3. Boiling Water

Plug in the kettle, bring it to a boil then pour the hot water over weeds (you’re basically cooking the weed to death).

4. Lemon Juice

Either use straight lemon juice or try 1/2 cup lemon juice mixed with 1 quart household vinegar. This works much the same way as straight vinegar, but lemon juice is more expensive. I would only use this if I had more lemon juice on hand than I knew what to do with.

5. Corn Gluten Meal (this is different than corn meal)

This is an all-natural weed and feed product that deter weeds spreading by seed. This is Effective on crabgrass, dandelions, curly dock, knotweed, lambs quarters, pigweed, plantain and other weeds. This can be used on lawns, flowerbeds, bulb beds and vegetable gardens.

Some other Tips for Weed Control

  • Many natural remedies and weed killer products will not only kill weeds dead, but they may also kill surrounding grass, plants and flowers. When using a recipe, make sure to apply to the weed only (keep in mind that liquids will saturate and seep into the ground where roots from favoured plants may be able to reach).
  • Use weed killers when there’s no sign of rain for at least a day or two, hot sunny weather will give you best results.
  • For weed control in gardens and flower beds, consider laying newspapers and mulch in and around your plants–the weeds will have a difficult time rooting and spreading.
  • Weed growth is greatly reduced when using the “No Dig” method of gardening The idea is to make a foundation of compost/mulch then only use soil where you plant (make a hole in the mulch, stick a handful or two of dirt inside then plant the seedling).

  • Did you know: Many weeds are used in home remedies for all sorts of things and some are even edible and tasty! For example, dandelions can be used to make a delicious syrup, wine or jelly, while plantains can be crushed and used to reduce itching from mosquito bites or relieve pain from bee stings. Take some time to research the weeds in your area and you may find some pretty clever ways to make them useful–you may just decide to let a few weeds live and flourish in certain parts of your yard.
