After the success of my blogs on Wonderlic Test Sample Questions, Auditing jobs, Administrative Jobs question and Accounting Jobs, now I want to create this blog for readers to do well in TOEFL test. In my first SOEFL test blog you learn little bit about the test and in my other coming blogs you will see some practice sample questions.

What is TOEFL?

The TOEFL test is the most widely respected English-language test in the world, recognized by more than 8,500 colleges, universities and agencies in more than 130 countries, including Australia, Canada, the U.K. and the United States. Wherever you want to study, the TOEFL test can help you get there.

Who is it for?

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of nonnative speakers of English to use and understand North American English as it is spoken, written and heard in college and university settings. Most people who take the TOEFL test are planning to study at colleges and universities where instruction is in English. In addition, many government agencies, scholarship programs, and licensing/certification agencies use TOEFL scores to evaluate English proficiency.
 

Versions of the TOEFL test

You can do the test on paper or on a computer, depending where you live. The test comes in two formats:

1. paper-based test (PBT)

The iBT is not yet available at every test center. If it is available at your local center then you will have to do it. If not you will do the PBT.
Where do I take the test?
At a test center in your country. The test is organised by the Educational Testing Service. You can register for the TOEFL® iBT online.

How much does the TOEFL test cost to take?

Prices of the TOEFL iBT vary in each country ranging from $160 to $240.
The paper-based TOEFL is $160.

What to Expect

Because so many individuals and institutions rely on TOEFL test scores, there are rules that need to be followed at the test center to ensure the test is administered in a fair, secure manner.
•Arrive at the test center
•Check in
•Take the test
•Report or cancel your scores
•Sign out
Knowing what to expect can put you more at ease on test day. Here is what typically happens:

Before the Test

•Plan to arrive at the test center at least 30 minutes before your specified start time. If you come late, you may not be able to take the test.
•ETS reserves the right to ensure the security of the test content by using electronic detection scanning devices (e.g., hand-held metal detectors/wands). Failure to comply will result in dismissal from the test and forfeiture of your test fees.
•Your photo will be taken and placed at your assigned seat. It will also appear on your score report.
•You will be asked to sign a required confidentiality agreement.
•Identification documents are the only personal items you are allowed to have in the testing room. Cell phones and other electronic devices are not permitted.
•Your seat will be assigned by the test administrator.
•No schedule changes can be made at the test center.
•Testing premises may be videotaped for security reasons.
•ID verification may also include thumb printing, signature comparison or other forms of electronic ID confirmation.
During the Test
•The test takes about 4 1/2 hours. No one is allowed to continue beyond the time limit.
•There is a mandatory 10-minute break midway through the test.
•Watch your pace so you do not go over your time for each section; the computer is the official timekeeper.
•If you need help for any reason, simply raise your hand.
•Cell phones and other devices are not permitted during the test or during breaks. (If you have health-related needs requiring you to bring equipment, beverages or snacks into the testing room or to take extra or extended breaks, you need to request accommodations in advance.
