2011 Electronics Consumer Electronics Show Top Products

In 2011 Electronics Consumer Electronics Show more companies shows the progress in 3D TVs. Companies like Motorola and RIM also showcased their entries into the suddenly crowded tablet market (over 100 new models on display this year).

Here are the top products for 2011

·        3DTV -The good news is that competition breeds discounts and more 3DTVs on the market means cheaper 3DTVs if you're in that particular market.

·        Tablet -More tablets also means more choice - you're not locked into Apple and the App Store, or into a picture of a Lego piece where a Flash video should appear when you're surfing the Web.

·        The electric Ford Focus - People like Ford a lot right now. Dependable and affordable, with lots of choice and decent looks if you care about that sort of thing. While the company's Focus is hugely popular, Ford dropped into CES to show off a new all-electric Focus that should be available in 2012. The car will feature Microsoft's MyFord Touch system, which is insanely popular, and the ability to recharge in four short hours - almost twice as fast as the Nissan Leaf or GM Volt, whit a charger that costs 75 per cent as much. No official range yet, but here's hoping it's built for the long haul.

·        Microsoft Windows 8 - Microsoft's follow-up to the popular Windows 7 operating system is still over a year away from the market, but a version on display at CES turned a lot of heads. One reason is the announcement that Microsoft will release a version for ARM processors - a system-on-a-chip approach that combines processor, memory and graphics on a single low power, low heat and integrated chip. Basically, this gives you the ability to run Windows 8 and any software it supports, on a phone, tablet or other device, providing there's enough memory for it. Given the pace of technology, that probably won't be an issue.

·        The Chumby 8 - The Chumby has a lot of fans, replacing your alarm clock/kitchen clock with a small touch computer that can stream music, give you news, weather, and other information through RSS feeds, lets you check in with social networking sites and more. It's not a computer, but it lets you access all kinds of web content in a simple, affordable way.

·        Nvidia/Lenovo screens - Lenovo and Nvidia teamed up to create a line of stereoscopic 3D computer screens for 3D computer gaming, with built in graphics processors and HD. To go with it, they also assembled a 3D gaming desktop tower to power that 3D experience.

·        Android 3 - I've seen a lot of Android phones and devices by now, and all I can say is that the experience differs wildly from gadget to gadget. There are literally a dozen versions of it out there, many overlaid with an interface designed by whatever company is selling the phone/tablet/etc. A Sony Xperia looks different from an HTC Droid, for example. At CES, Google showed off Android 3, which could cut through the mess and reunify the Android experience for millions of users.

·        The Nike+ SportWatch - A watch with built-in GPS to track you while you run, and will also track your data - bugging you when you forget to run and encouraging you to run faster.

·        Samsung's 9 Series Laptops - A PC competitor to Apple's MacBook Air is thinner, lighter and arguably more powerful as well. It's also more expensive, but if you're dropping $1,400 on a laptop these days what's an extra $200?

·        Spot Connect - This product will be of interest to Whistler's backcountry crowd, turning any smartphone into a satellite phone with GPS capability. The cost is $170, plus you'll need to spend around $100 a year for a satellite subscription, but it could save your life. And you won't have to carry around three devices (phone, satellite phone and GPS) any longer.

·        Oxygen Audio - While a lot of cars have docks and connectors for iPhones, Oxygen Audio's O'Car deck lets your iPhone or iPod become your stereo. For $350, you can use your phone interface to access music, control volume, navigate by GPS, call hands-free or using a Bluetooth headset and more.

·        For me, the best part about CES is the surprises. Blu-ray made its first appearance at CES, as did HD plasma televisions and 3DTVs. Intel unveiled its i7 and i3 chips at CES. Microsoft showed off the original Xbox. Harmonix showed off Guitar Hero for the first time

TV Shows To watch in 2011 Part 2

30 Rock

 

I love Tina Fey. And as long as “30 Rock” remains on the air, Thursdays will be filled with joy. Thank you, NBC, for your gift to comedy. The show will be returning on January 20th but moved to 10/9c. Get psyched.

Bob’s Burgers

Fox is also introducing a new animated comedy called “Bob’s Burgers” from creator Loren Bouchard (“Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist”) about a family and their floundering burger joint. It looks legitimately funny and what else are you watching on Sunday night? The show will premiere on Sunday, January 9th at 8:30 p.m.

The Cape

NBC is trying something new with the one-hour drama “The Cape,” which follows Vince Farrasay (David Lyons) who was an honest cop on a corrupt police force. He got framed for a series of murders and was presumed dead but instead goes into hiding. He wants his family back, so with the help from some awesome Carnies, he becomes his son’s favorite comic book hero—“The Cape”—and takes the law into his own hands. The show will premiere with a 2-hour episode on Sunday, January 9th at 9 p.m. ET on NBC and then will resume at its regular time slot on Monday, January 17th at 9 p.m.

Glee

Obviously, we’re always excited about Fox’s “Glee,” but now we’ve got to wait until Tuesday, April 13th at 9 p.m. ET to see it! To hold you over, here’s Kurt and Blaine singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside”.

Love Bites

In Love Bites fAnnie (Becki Newton from “Ugly Betty”) and Frannie (Jordana Spiro from “My Boys”) as the last two single ladies in their group of friends. Other romantically challenged characters will come and go each week, including guests like Jennifer Love Hewitt, Jason Lewis, Lindsay Price, Charlyne Yi and others. “Love Bites” got pushed back from the fall, and there is no set premiere date yet, which is way lame.

Here are some best tv shows we all will watch in 2011:

Perfect Couples

Some of them are oldies but goodies, but most of them are brand-new! It’s always important to have something to look forward to and, personally, I’m really excited for NBC’s new show “Perfect Couples,” which stars Olivia Munn and a bunch of familiar-looking actors. The show follows three very different couples as they figure out how to maneuver their relationships while trying not to kill each other. There’s a sneak preview of the series on December 20th at 10:30 p.m. on NBC and then it will be back on January 20th for an 8:30 pm time slot in that already amazing NBC Thursday lineup

Happy Endings

This show follows a group of friends who’re stuck in the middle of one couple, Dave and Alex (Elisha Cuthbert), who’ve just had a brutal left-at-the-altar breakup. It’s relatable, and unlike a bunch of the new shows, it’s not about happy couples; it’s about an old group of friends who’ve lost their center and have to negotiate their new dynamic instead of parting ways because they’re right, how the hell are you supposed to make friends at this age? Too bad it doesn’t premiere until Wednesday, April 13th 10 p.m. ET on ABC.

Mr. Sunshine

In this TV shows Ben (Matthew Perry) works at The Sunshine Center and his boss Crystal (Allison Janney) is totally unpredictable and dysfunctional. His girlfriend Alice does PR and he competes for her affection with the smooth-talking Alonzo. Ben is forced to hire Crystal’s unmotivated son Roman who becomes his confidant. All you need to know is that four-time Emmy winner Allison Janney is amazing and she is going to be the heart of this show. “Mr. Sunshine” premieres Wednesday, February 9th at 9:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Parks and Recreation

This one is finally coming back to NBC Thursdays at 9:30 p.m. ET. The show was pushed back in an effort to give “Outsourced” a chance to survive, which, miraculously, it has despite being pretty mediocre. Anyway, Amy Poehler is fantastic, as is the rest of the cast, and Rob Lowe has added an interesting dynamic to the show! This is actually maybe my favorite show on TV right now.

Mixed Signals

In this TV shows three longtime friends (Nelson Franklin, David Denman and Kris Marshall) try to balance their committed relationships with their desire for freedom and bromance. The show deals with relationships and friendships and how they tend to complicate each other. The show will premiere in the spring on Tuesdays 9:30 p.m. ET on Fox.
