Enjoy 2012 Halloween without any accidents

This is my 3rd of blog post on Halloween 2013. In the last blog you saw how to celebrate Halloween 2013 on budget (frugal way)

1. Flame-Resistant Costumes

Flammable materials, flowing skirts, baggy sleeves and over-sized costumes can all be hazards around candles or flames. Avoid costumes with

Baggy sleeves or flowing skirts and look for costumes, beards and wigs that are labelled "Flame-Resistant." Nylon or heavyweight polyester costumes are best. Remember, "Flame-Resistant" does not mean fire-proof.

2. Brightly coloured costumes a good idea

Pick brightly coloured costumes that can be clearly seen by motorists. Add reflective tape to the costume to increase visibility.

3. Face paint better than masks

Use make-up or face paint instead of masks. Improperly fitted masks can interfere with your child's vision or breathing. If you do choose a mask, make sure it fits properly and allows them to see and breathe properly.

 

4. Use flexible material toy weapons

Toy weapons such as swords, knives and other accessories can cause injuries so make sure they are always made of flexible material.

6. Care with Lenses

 

Coloured contact lenses that change eye colour should be avoided because they can cause injury to a child's eyes.

7. Wearing visible clothing (reflective tape)

If your children are going to be out on the streets, make sure they are wearing visible clothing. Perhaps you could put reflective tape on their costumes.

 

8. Easy to move Costumes

Costumes should not be too long or restrict your child’s freedom to move.

9. Dress Warm clothing

Cold and wet weather can be harmful to children. Choose costumes that can be worn over warm clothing, but are not baggy enough to trip over.

10. Remove obstacles from house pathways

Remove obstacles from lawns, steps and porches when expecting trick-or-treaters.Make your home safe for ghouls and goblins by removing objects around the outside of your house that could cause children to trip or fall. Turn on your outside lights so that children know they can visit.

11. Pet leashed and inside

Keep pets inside and away from trick or treaters and lit candles, especially if they are easily frightened or overly excitable.

12. Care with inside decorations

In your home, keep candles and jack-o'-lanterns away from curtains, decorations, and other items which could ignite. Do not leave burning candles unattended.

13. Pay attention with candles

Never leave a candle anywhere unattended, and never leave burning candles where children (or people who act like children) can reach them or accidentally knock them over.

14. Porch Light

Check your porch lights or entry lights beforehand to make sure they are fully functional. Make sure to keep the area around your entry brightly lit to prevent accidents.

15. Decorations and walking space

When putting out Halloween decorations for display, make sure to leave enough room for people to walk up to your door without bumping into them.
